John 6:51
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live for ever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.’
- Our God sent his Son, who descended from heaven to provide for humans what their nature requires to attain everlasting life. To eat of this bread means to appropriate Christ as one’s life. It is a figure of speech for believing, for no one will eat what he or she cannot trust as edible. Eating a meal implies that it is wholesome, nourishing, and real.
- Jesus later said in John 6:55 “For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.” What did he mean by that?
